Frontier Biotech with long-term impact

Targeting Inflammation with a Completely New Molecular Class

Based on a discovery at the University of Sydney for locally reprogramming macrophages.

Company Overview

Proteios Pty Ltd is a Sydney-based biotechnology company formed in 2021 by Duncan Hardie and Professor Richard Payne, alongside an experienced founding scientific and commercial team.

Proteios is part of the broader Hardie Pacific Group of Companies, a private investment group with a long-term track record across technology and early-stage ventures. From inception, Proteios was established with a clear mandate: to take promising academic drug discovery research beyond the laboratory and progress it through structured and rigorous development pathways.

Proteios is actively developing its initial pipeline candidate RP23 as a modified peptide-based technology, with its most advanced work centred on inflammatory conditions of the skin and lung. This is a platform technology for inflammatory diseases supported by granted patents which is suited to clinical development as locally delivered therapeutics.

The company originated with strong connections to the University of Sydney including the founders and the present day team maintains that connection. Having moved beyond the Discovery phase, Proteios is now preparing for IND readiness for topical indications with advanced formulations under development.

Proteios combines scientific innovation with commercial discipline and is responsible for the development, stewardship and progression of its technology and intellectual property, while maintaining close collaboration with its academic partners.

Our Mission

Progress, deliberately and with purpose.

  • Expand and build upon the fundamental discovery of RP23 that underpinned the company’s initial formation.
  • Advance and protect Proteios’ proprietary assets, including patents.
  • Progress the company’s lead candidates through evidence-based R&D programs aligned with real-world clinical unmet needs in high growth markets.
  • Build the organisational, governance and commercial capability required to support downstream partnering, licensing or further development opportunities.
Vision

Transforming how inflammatory diseases are treated for better long-term outcomes.

Academic Partnership

A University of Sydney spin-out.

Proteios was established originally as a University of Sydney spin-out and works closely with its originating academic teams across the intersection of medicinal chemistry and inflammatory disease research. The company maintains collaborative relationships with university-affiliated research programs, while it now operates independently as the commercial vehicle responsible for technology, intellectual property and pipeline R&D.
